How to change where screenshots are saved on a Mac?

To change where screenshots are saved on a Mac, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the Screenshot App:
    • Press Shift-Command-5 on your keyboard. This keyboard shortcut will open the Screenshot app, which provides various options for capturing screenshots and screen recordings.
  2. Access Screenshot Options:
    • In the Screenshot app, you’ll see a toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Click on the “Options” button (it looks like a gear or cogwheel).
  3. Choose Save To:
    • Under the “Save To” section, you can select where you want to save your screenshots. You have a few options:
      • Desktop: This is the default option and saves your screenshots to the desktop.
      • Documents: You can choose to save them in your Documents folder.
      • Clipboard: Screenshots will be copied to your clipboard for easy pasting into other applications without saving them as files.
  4. Select a Different Folder:
    • If you want to save screenshots to a specific folder that’s not one of the default options, click “Other Location.” This will open a file dialog where you can navigate to the folder you prefer.
  5. Choose a Default Folder for Organization:
    • If you want to keep your screenshots organized, you can create a dedicated folder and set it as the default location for screenshots. To do this, click “Other Location,” navigate to your desired folder, and select “New Folder” to create a new one if needed. Then, click “Open” to set this folder as the default location.
  6. Capture Screenshots:
    • After you’ve selected your preferred save location, you can proceed to capture screenshots using the Screenshot app as usual.

Now, your Mac will save screenshots in the location you’ve specified. Remember that these settings will persist until you change them again, so you can always come back to the Screenshot app’s Options to adjust your preferences.
